Life on Tioman island is mundane. Small villages situated on coasts in several spots of the island is taking care of redundant flow of tourists who seek getaway from their little world. Time seems to slow the tempo in favor for sun burned bodies, overheated brains, long dreams and big hopes. No rush no hurry, do it when it feels right. Some build houses little by little, some pull of the grass from their garden some play games on the Internet.
Juara Turtle Project
One place called Turtle Project has as a goal to recover the population of turtles which was heavily endangered and were close to oblivion just for some years ago.
As this island’s beaches for thousands of years was a nesting place for Green and Hawksbill turtles and it didn’t have any dangerous enemies on the island itself. The island doesn't have any indigenous people and as far the history can go some human inhabitants there date to 11 century[1] otherwise the island was used primarily for resting and supply for fishermen, traders from 16 century[2] and later as a military base and in the present as a tourist destination.
Primary decline in population of turtles was caused by HUMANS who hoarded the egg and meat as food and later with the rise of new generation of waste, turtles which been in shaky balance of surviving from humans get another seizure, PLASTIC.
Now Turtle project collect the eggs from the nest where a turtle originally laid the eggs and replace it into a fenced shelter to keep an eye on the eggs until they hatch. On the hatching day they pick up meekly the turtles from the pretended cradle and release them into the sea.
This important day are waited with elation by the staff and tourists.
Crowd of people gather to wait in front of hatchery as tech nerds wait in front of Samsung store to get the latest flagman phone. The air is electrified, the faces are in fervour, impatience and uncanny sensations are cutting edge of this enticing ceremony.
The staff start to dig and uncover the nest, people hold their position, they are focused, whisper, smile and stare through the mesh net to get a glimpse of what is going on there. First turtle appear, most of the people noisy exhale and reply in relief to horrendous journey to the light from darkness which small turtles did. With every new turtle uncovered the joy of the crowd increase as they would go by them self through the same feelings and struggles as small turtles do. The crowd appreciate and realise how important is to be free and to be protected from the very small beginning when your liberty is confined and under threat.
This was the after hatching when the nest is uncovered to check if there were unhatched eggs from the primary hatch a few days earlier. At this hatch 6 turtles were found.
Time to release the turtles, the crowd build a row and one of the staff release the faltered and sentient turtles to make their last run to the water and new challenges against all that unfathomable OCEAN OF PLASTIC. If the hatching was birth for the crowd then the release of the turtles is like watching children making the first step.
People's exciting tops with splashes of turbulence and shaking movements of the hand which holds the phone to take that first step.
It's a tragedy and disaster to view these people gather here, it’s disintegrating to watch these people so ignorant, to watch how 41 people came to watch how 6 or 26 turtles has been released. Why people didn’t came to watch the turtles when they naturally hatched in numbers of 100 but they do that now? Is like taking farewell from the last endangered species of turtles we will not see ever again. It’s shameful that we got at this point when we have to protect the turtles from our self. But unfortunately is wrong to try to protect and save the turtles because not the turtles that are the problem but HUMAN. No matter how good you are in taking care of eggs if they die in even more numbers entangled in plastic or from human activity and appetite.

[5]It’s careless and blind that people watch on the turtle's eggs different from other eggs. Why people don’t travel to watch and take photos how hens hatch in the factory? Are chickens less valuable than turtles? Maybe chickens don’t feel the same pain and suffering as a turtle or a human? How about dogs and cats are they better than cows or pigs? Do dogs and cats feel everything and chickens, cows and pigs don’t? Blind form truth and reality people eat what they been fed without even considering the harm, torture and misery they cause. Why people don’t make tourist attraction to the slaughter? It should be fun to laugh and take photo covered by blood, offal and stink that make you vomit from the death bodies or take a selfie with recently decapitated head of the cow. All this sadistic bigotry, shameless and indifference from the people give more weight to suffering and deaths.
The problem is not in turtles, cows or chickens the problems are in humans. People make plastic waste, fishing nets and kill not only the fish, turtles, whales, dolphins but destroy entire ecosystem by trailing the nets on the bottom of the sea causing irreparable damages. People are the reason why the forest is cut down for making more place for pasture causing extinction to wildlife in the forests and jungles. People are the problem who feast on the pain, suffering and death of the animals that take the brunt of this unfair game.
Next time you eat meat stop for a moment and think, why do you eat dead bodies who earlier were a living animal who feel pain, hunger, joy, humiliation the same as you do? What powers within you which make you to deprive ones life? Are you a murderer or consumer? If you are not a murderer then why to eat meat?
Stop supporting this awful death industry, stop eating meat if not for the reason of sentient creatures then for environment and health.
