Hard time to find a trip from Vietnam by sea
Time to leave
Now I have one month left in Vietnam and my thoughts going around to plan a route from Vietnam by sea no matter where just out from here. As things takes time to figure out in a new place I began one month in ahead to check with my friends and agencies to find a way out from by sea from here. I really thought this would be a easy one to get but I forgot that things works different in this country or better to say that things don't work att all here.First I tried with cargo ships and I did checked in advance what papers you should have to get on board of this vessels. Then consulting with a guy who works in this field told me that is not possible to get on board if you don't have seaman's book and to make a seaman's bok is an entire history as well. Alright this option with cargo ships was nothing to think more about, so I focused on sailboats.
There is some good web pages like "Sail Indonesia" which give information and links to most popular places where to find a boat or to search for a crew. I was looking on many places to find a boat. I found many option and destinations to different places in South East Asia as Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia or other places but only one who is located in Vietnam. I quit the idea to find a sailboat from Vietnam on those web pages so I looked instead for sailboats on marina. I found only two marinas in entire Vietnam, yes you heard right and the same as you I realized that something is not clear and went to find out more.
Those two marinas I found was only for tourists and locals to try some fun activities and no even a sight of sailboats as I used to imagine marina in other places.
Things start to clear when I read more about sailing to and from Vietnam where people describe how complicated is the process with all that bureaucracy and rules one have to face to enter the Vietnamese waters and this is the reason people just don't sail here. Now I'm not surprised why I could't see any sailboats at marinas. The harsh laws and annoying permits for tourist sailboat equal the entry process to a nightmare and unnecessary pain and lost of time and money. Well done Vietnam, keep on to regulate hard everyone until nobody will want to come here anymore.
If now I will not find any sailboat which is quite obvious that I will not find then only option is to get back on the road to Cambodia and after that to Thailand.
Quite sad but this is the real world and not a fairy tail where everything is shining and is pink. Hope next time I will have more simple laws from the host country to find me a boat or ship to get to other places.
